Hello, Welcome to Lexize! This test aims to measure your vocabulary knowledge in Finnish and/or Swedish, and it includes a vocabulary test and a background questionnaire. The test is part of a study on language development of L2 speakers by the departments of Psychology and Speech-Language Pathology of Åbo Akademi University and University of Turku. For the vocabulary test, we ask you to answer a few questions beforehand in order to gain insight into how different background factors affect vocabulary knowledge. After completing the test, you will be informed about your performance. You can send the test results to the researchers by pressing the Send button. At this point, you have the opportunity to participate in a lottery that offers a chance to win a gift card.

POTENTIAL HARMS, RISKS, DISCOMFORTS
The risks involved in participating in this study are minimal. Your eyes may become tired during the course of the experiment. If this becomes uncomfortable, you are encouraged to take short breaks as needed. The test takes approximately 10 minutes. You can participate in the test if you are over 18 years old.

CONFIDENTIALITY
All personal information we attain will remain highly confidential and strictly secured. Within this study, we will ask you to provide your email address. Please note that we collect this information solely for potential lottery-related communication. Your email address will be saved in an encrypted format and we will not be able to recognize you through it without your permission. Only those who have granted permission to decrypt the email address will be recognized. You can provide this permission in the questionnaire by checking the box ”Do you give permission for researchers to decode your email in case you win the lottery? Please check this option if you want researchers to contact you via email.” If you grant us permission to decrypt your email address, it will be accessible only to researchers associated with this project. If you do not tick this option, your data will be assigned a numeric participant ID and stored by this ID only. No publication or discussion regarding this study will contain any personal and/or identifying information. In line with principles of open science, your data may be shared with other researchers outside of University of Turku or Åbo Akademi University and/or with general public, as part of a journal publication, but the data will not contain any information that can be used to identify you. As requested by general federal and university agencies and policies, we will retain your data for at least 5 years. Once out of active use, the electronic data will be archived on a secure server in our research lab for a maximum of 10 years. A privacy notice can be found here.

PARTICIPANT RIGHTS
Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You may choose to withdraw at any time during the study without any consequences. If you withdraw during the study, you will not need to give any explanation for the decision. It is also possible to not click the Send Result-button after you have completed the experiment. In that case your data will not be stored. In case you have sent the data, you will be able to withdraw your data up to 6 months after the experiment is completed.
